The general manager of the Rossoneri, Adriano Galliani, coach Carlo Ancelotti and captain Paolo Maldini were present at the inaugural press conference from the winter training camp of Dubai.
DUBAI – The inaugural press conference from the winter training camp of Dubai was held at 2pm (local time, +3hrs CET) with general manager Adriano Galliani, coach Carlo Ancelotti and captain Paolo Maldini, together with the Emirates AirLine Group executive chairman, Mauri Flanagan.
It was the vice-president of Fly Emirates, Mauri Flanagan, who spoke first as he welcomed Milan:“I’m very happy to have Milan here for the second consecutive year and very pleased to announce that the rapport between Fly Emirates and A.C.Milan solidified itself, intensifying the level of sponsorship. In fact Fly Emirates became Top Institutional Sponsor of A.C.Milan.”
Even the general manager of the Rossoneri, Adriano Galliani, proved to be happy about this rapport which tied the Rossoneri colours to Fly Emirates:“I’m very enthusiastic about this rapport with Fly Emirates, a liaison which for the time being is signed until 2010, but which I think can continue in time. Milan is happy to have returned to Dubai even this year for the winter preparation and to have available the equipments of the Al Nasr stadium in order to train."
Adriano Galliani then replied to the questions about the football topics of the numerous journalists who were present:“Our will, now is that of re-starting in a great way the second part of the season. Our objectives remain always those of winning the Scudetto and Uefa Cup.
“To the new year I ask especially for fewer injuries because so far our season has been influenced by the numerous absences. We hope to recover the injured players as soon as possible, even though I fear that with regards to Borriello, he will not be available before the end of January.
“With regards to the transfer market,, our objective is that of purchasing an important player, a player of the highest level who plays in the role of a left full-back since we thought of moving Jankulovksi in midfielder. I deny the arrival of a central defender, considering the various players who cover this role, like Maldini, Kaladze, Bonera and Senderos.”
Then it was the turn of the Rossoneri’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti:“We are happy to be here also this year to undertake the winter preparation and we thank for the welcome and hospitality that we received.
“Beckham? This morning he had his first training session with the team. I believe that he is an important player who will give his contribution to Milan. He’s a player who can play in all of the three midfield roles and he is available for the group. This training camp week will be useful to evaluate his physical condition and then we shall evaluate when it will be possible to use him in the official games.
“In the second part of the season we shall have to improve our level of the game, especially in the defensive part. We still believe in the Scudetto and we are convinced that we can reach Inter.”
Captain Paolo Maldini concluded the press conference, as he spoke about the arrival of the English midfielder and on his future:“Beckham is a great champion, but we must not forget that he arrived in a great team and a great club like Milan. We the players are not interested in what his off pitch life is, we found a lad who hasn't trained for the past two and a half months, but I had the opportunity to speak to him and I saw his determination and great will to put himself straight to work to return to play as soon as possible.
“The secret of my career? I think that it’s my passion for this sport. I don’t think that in the future I will have the chance to play together with my kids since in 2009 I will end my career, but I hope for them to have a future as great as mine or to be able to create the same rapport and same friendships which this sport allowed me to have during these years.”
