Although there has been lots of cruel gossip in the past about Victoria Beckham's actual input into the design of her label, the fashion world has finally come to accept that she's in it for the long haul - not just a photo-op.
Note to journalists: Don’t ask Roland Mouret about Victoria Beckham any more. However, every fashion design superhero needs an accessories sidekick, and for those in the know, Katie Hillier is always the first call.
Already the eye behind Marc by Marc Jacobs' accessories, Hillier cut her teeth with Luella and can now be 'co-credited' with the sell-out success of Beckham's first collection of handbags.
"SHE designs the bags", she stressed to me at last night's LOVE magazine party. "At the start of the season, Victoria gives me a huge folder full of all the stuff she's seen that she likes, and we work through it together. Often I'll come back with an idea and she'll say no - she's particularly picky about fabrics, which is unusual. Lots of people I've worked with are like, 'It looks good - great!', but Victoria will lick her finger and wipe it on the cloth and be like 'Uh-oh, I can see what's going to happen to that in the rain!"
Victoria has been photographed frequently over the past few months, devotedly carrying her own bags instead of her previously beloved collection of Hermès Birkin and Kelly bags.
"She wear-tests all the bags when they're in development, taking them everywhere she goes," Hillier explains. "All the bags are designed to fit into her life and that's why they just work."
