There is sad news to report today. David Beckham's grandfather Joseph West has passed away at the age of 83. West died after battling a serious illness for several months, Beckham spokesman Simon Oliveira said.
David found out about his grandfather's passing just after landing in Cape Town today, and he will travel back to England if the funeral takes place Friday. A friend said: "David is absolutely devastated. He was so close to Joe, who was his mentor. He only got off the plane when he heard the news."
Joesph West is David's mother Sandra's father.
